On November 18, 2023, we celebrated National Breakup with Sachets Day, a nationwide event dedicated to raising awareness about the fight against plastic sachets. We teamed up with organizations, youth leaders, and more to bring communities together for a range of activities—from cleanup drives and plastic waste workshops to online campaigns that reached people across the country.
With the support of our amazing organization partners, we were able to activate 32 different areas across the Philippines. Each of the country’s major island groups hosted at least two programs, whether online or in person. Many of our volunteers were key to hosting various events in Manila, Quezon City, Zambales, Mindoro, Laguna, Pampanga, Dumaguete, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, and many more areas!
One of the highlights came from a youth volunteer with the Kaya Natin Movement who shared how surprised and thrilled they were when parents, neighbors, and even local fisherfolk joined their community’s cleanup drive. They also pointed out how it really showed how a simple initiative can inspire a whole neighborhood to take action.
Looking Ahead
Following the success of the 2023 edition of National Breakup with Sachets Day , we’re reminded of the power of grassroots efforts in tackling plastic waste. The energy, initiative, and commitment we saw from volunteers and partners made it clear that we’re on the right track. The fight against single-use plastics is far from over, but with this kind of community spirit, we know real change is possible.
We also want to take the time to acknowledge how special last year’s event was since many of our partners were working with Makesense for the first time. And we couldn’t be happier with the results! We received an average satisfaction score of 9.6/10, with many partners already looking forward to collaborating again.
And if you’re interested in working with us on similar initiatives, send us a message. We’re all ears! 👂
